CFB AM: Alabama fan remakes 'I'm a Believer' as tribute to Blake Sims
How did you think Alabama fans were spending their time between the SEC Championship Game and the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1?
If you guessed making remixes of classic songs to honor the team’s players, then you nailed it.
One Crimson Tide fan recently took The Monkees’ “I’m a Believer” and rewrote it as an ode to quarterback Blake Sims.
Check out this vocal performance:
Wait – there’s more?
There’s more!
This same fan – Michael Mason, according to his YouTube handle – also made a song about Amari Cooper earlier this month, taking Dean Martin’s classic “That’s Amore” and turning it into a Cooper tune. Here’s the video:
God bless you, Tide fans. You only have a few days left to wait until you can get back to watching actual football.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. I hope your holiday was merry and you’re doing nothing today but eating leftovers and taking naps. If you want to watch some college football, here’s your bowl viewing info: Heart of Dallas – Illinois vs. Louisiana Tech (1 p.m. ET, ESPN); Quick Lane – Rutgers vs. North Carolina (4:30 p.m. ET, ESPN); St. Petersburg – UCF vs. NC State (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).
2. Arkansas got some huge news on Christmas: The school announced running back Jonathan Williams, who teamed up with Alex Collins to wreck people this season, will return to the Hogs for his senior season. “My faith, family and education are very important to me and all three played a major role in my decision,” Williams said in a statement. “I have many goals that I want to pursue, on and off the field. Graduating from the University of Arkansas is very important to me, and I look forward to running through the ‘A’ again in 2015.” If the Hogs can find some consistency at QB, they’re going to be a tough game in the SEC next fall.
3. South Carolina running back Mike Davis announced Saturday’s Independence Bowl against Miami will be his last game as a Gamecock. Davis will leave school early and enter the 2015 NFL Draft.
THREE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
1. Kevin Sumlin plucked Utah offensive coordinator Dave Christensen away from the Utes, hiring him to be Texas A&M’s offensive line coach and run game coordinator. Now the search for the Aggies’ new defensive coordinator continues.
2. Scary situation here: Florida cornerback J.C. Jackson and West Virginia wide receiver Jacky Marcellus were grazed by bullets in a shooting outside an apartment complex earlier this week. Both are fine but Marcellus’ brother was shot in the face and is currently in serious condition.
3. New Tulsa coach and former Baylor OC Philip Montgomery got himself a four-star QB recruit on Christmas, getting Chad President to flip his commitment from Baylor to Tulsa. Part of that reportedly had to do with Baylor getting four-star 2015 QB Jarrett Stidham to commit on Dec. 23, so President decided to look for another place to play. He should put up huge numbers with Montgomery.
THREE THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW
1. How did some college football fans spend their Christmas morning? By watching Bevo walk around and the SEC Network Yule Log. We really don’t know what to do with ourselves when sports aren’t on, do we?
2. If you’re off today and want some high-quality reading material, SB Nation put together their best longform pieces of 2014. Some fantastic work here.
3. Ready for the Rose Bowl and all the other New Year’s Day games? This FSU-Oregon hype video will help get you there. I can’t wait.
LASTLY
Remember to take a light stroll before going for thirds today. You won’t regret it.
Have a great Friday, everybody, and enjoy the weekend.
