Callahan's 4 TDs leads Wesley past Charlotte 35-28
Joe Callahan's 1-yard touchdown run with 2:14 left to play lifted Division III Wesley to a 35-28 win over Charlotte on Saturday.
Callahan, who completed 25 of 39 passes for 317 yards and two touchdowns, helped the Wolverines (7-2) to a 14-0 lead with a touchdown run early in the first quarter and later found Kyle George for a 2-yard touchdown pass with 4:19 remaining in the first half.
Charlotte (4-6), however, rattled off 21 unanswered points, including a 22-yard scoring strike from Lee McNeill to Mark Pettit which was set up by a forced fumble and recovery by Demarjai Devine on the opening kickoff of the second half.
Callahan's second touchdown pass of the day, to Bryce Shade from 17 yards out, tied the game at 28-28 with 8:41 left in the game.
Kalif Phillips rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in the loss.
