Butch Jones receives a raise from Tennessee
Tennessee head coach Butch Jones received a hefty raise from the school Monday.
The new contract does not add any years to Jones' existing contract, however it increases his compensation an additional $500,000 a year, making his five-year deal worth $4.1 million annually.
“Butch Jones has done an outstanding job leading this football program on and off the field,” Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart said via statement. “As I said recently, Butch has brought stability to our program. When we hired Butch (three) years ago, he laid out a vision of how we wanted to build this program back to where we all want it to be. We have made great strides, however, it remains an ongoing process.
“Most importantly, we have the right leader to get us to our ultimate destination and we are rewarding him accordingly.”
Following the Vols' 8-4 regular season, Jones' best season to date at Tennessee, the head coach now joins the growing list of SEC coaches to make at least $4 million annually. All seven coaches in the West made at least $4 million in 2015.
