Burks leads Kennesaw State over DII Missouri S&T 49-16

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 5:45 p.m. ET

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) Chandler Burks ran for three touchdowns, passed for another, and Kennesaw State had little problem dispatching Division II Missouri S&T 49-16 on Saturday.

Burks had 118 yards rushing on 29 carries and completed 2 of 6 passes for 73 yards.

Missouri S&T actually got on the board first, as Tyler Swart found Braxton Graham for a 73-yard touchdown pass on its first possession. It was mostly Kennesaw State - and Burks - from there.

The Owls (4-1) used three long drives to go up 21-7, with Burks scoring from 5 and 1 yards out. Burks' second quarter fumble turned into a 65-yard return touchdown by Isaiah Hardy, but Kennesaw State put up four second-half touchdowns - including Burks' 52-yard scoring strike to Xavier Harper - to complete the rout.

Kennesaw State rushed 73 times for 369 yards and six touchdowns. Chaston Bennett had two touchdowns and 51 yards rushing on six carries.

Only in its second year of football, the Owls set a program record for rushing attempts and tied their record for rushing touchdowns in a game.
