Broadway leads La.-Lafayette past Troy, 41-36
Terrance Broadway threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores to help Louisiana-Lafayette beat Troy 41-36 on Thursday night for its seventh straight victory.
The Ragin' Cajuns (7-3, 4-0 Sun Belt) stopped Troy (5-5, 3-3) on a fourth-and-goal play from the 4 with 2:01 left. Trevence Patt knocked away Corey Robinson's pass to Eric Thomas in the end zone, and Louisiana-Lafayette was able to run out the clock.
Broadway was 8 of 13 for 185 yards and ran for 63 yards on 14 carries. Darryl Surgent returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, and Elijah McGuire had a 38-yard scoring run and caught a 60-yard touchdown pass in the period. McGuire finished with 83 yards rushing on seven carries.
Broadway had an 11-yard scoring run in the second quarter, and threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Effrem Reed late in the half to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 35-29 lead.
Broadway made it 41-29 with a 2-yard run early in the fourth, but was sacked on a 2-point conversion try.
Robinson was 25 of 44 for 271 yards for Troy. He threw a 3-yard scoring pass to Thomas with 6:59 left to cut it to 41-36. Thomas had five catches for 93 yards, and Brandon Burks ran for 126 yards on 15 carries.
Camren Hudson scored for the Trojans on a 65-yard interception return in the second quarter, and running back Khary Franklin threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to B.J. Chitty in the period. Will Scott made a school-record 53-yard field goal and also connected from 39 and 21 yards.
