Bower powers MMA by Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - Senior fullback Jim Bower of South Paris rushed for three touchdowns and 285 yards on 31 carries to lead Maine Maritime Academy past Framingham State University here Saturday.

The victory effectively puts 5-1 Maine Maritime in the driver's seat and on top in the New England Football Conference's Bogan Division as FSU is now 5-2 overall and an identical 3-1 in division play. The Mariners would win a tie due to the head-to-head victory. Massachusetts Maritime is also 3-1 in division play and will play the Mariners next Saturday at noon.

The Mariners rushed for 523 yards overall and seven total touchdowns while holding the Rams to 167 on the ground. The Rams did pick up another 227 with their passing game.

Mariners quarterback Matt Rende of Augusta rushed for another 182 yards and three TD's on 14 carries.

Norwich 52, Husson 7

At Northfield, Vt., Norwich University's defense held Husson College to 159 total yards and didn't allow a single third- or fourth-down conversion as the Eagles went 0-for-9 on third down and 0-for-4 on fourth in the game. Meanwhile, Norwich racked up 477 yards on the ground and another 96 through the air.

Andrew Pulford gained 110 yards on 14 carries and scored one touchdown to lead Norwich.

Husson's Kash Keezer completed two of five passes for 81 yards and one TD - a 68-yarder to Ben Foss.

At Clinton, N.Y., James Stanell ran for two touchdowns and 119 yards on 12 carries to lead the Hamilton Continentals past Bowdoin College of Brunswick. R.J. Shea led Bowdoin with 114 yards on 11-for-22 passing.

At Orono, The University of Maine football club remained unbeaten and clinched a Yankee Collegiate Football Conference playoff spot with a win over Eastern Connecticut State University.

Shawn Dew rushed for two touchdowns in his first game for Maine and Brett Davison passed for two to lead the club. Jesse Miller caught his fourth touchdown pass in the last four games.
