Big 12 Battle

Updated Jul. 17, 2020 8:00 p.m. ET

With the NBA, NHL, NASCAR and other major sports leagues and sporting events suspended or canceled, what better time to take a look back at some iconic sports moments? Each day, we’ll deliver One Thing to Watch.

Tonight on FS1, we're looking forward to looking backwards.

Get it?

On Oct. 22, 2016, Baker Mayfield's Oklahoma Sooners paid a visit to Patrick Mahomes and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

And both guys were flexing on the opposing defenses.

Tonight, FS1 will air a special replay of the masterpiece matchup.

And throughout the game, we'll be delivering highlights and stats and all that good stuff – for those who haven't seen it and for those wanting to watch it again.

We're off and running with this thing, as Baker Mayfield connects with Joe Mixon less than two minutes into the game for the first of many, many touchdowns.

As you can see, even before Mixon made it to the big leagues, he was already a man among young men.

He knows it, too.

We mentioned earlier the many touchdowns that would be scored.

We weren't joking.

The second half arrived and nothing changed.

Word of advice: Don't leave Mixon unguarded.

Can we also take a minute to admire that one-handed catch? Pure excellence. Apparently, it was just another day at the office for Mixon.

Back to the game.

Even in Patrick Mahomes' college days, he had a cannon for an arm.

Even though the gunslinger and his Red Raiders fell to the Sooners on this night, big things were clearly in the cards for both Mahomes and Mayfield.

The two, now NFL stars, combined for an FBS-record 1,708 yards of offense. Baker broke an OU record with 7 touchdown passes and Mahomes set FBS records with 819 yards of total offense, including 734 passing yards.

That's one game we'll never forget.
