Beer could become part of legal battle between NCAA, Joe Paterno's estate
The NCAA lifted Penn State's sanctions stemming from the Jerry Sandusky sexual assault scandal, but the estate of late former Nittany Lions coach Joe Paterno is not done with the governing body of college athletics.
As part of its defense against a defamation lawsuit filed against it by the estate, the NCAA requested records pertaining to the business deal between the estate and the Duquesne Brewing Company, which began selling Joe Paterno Legacy Beer earlier this year.
And why would the association's lawyers be interested in such things?
Perhaps to make the case Paterno's reputation was not irreparably harmed when he was fired in the wake of the scandal in 2012.
It remains to be seen if how that claim might hold up, but the popularity of the beer in Pennsylvania would seem to indicate Paterno is still popular there.
