Baylor running back Devin Chafin arrested on pot charges
FREDERICK, Okla. -- Baylor running back Devin Chafin is free on bond after he and his female passenger were stopped and arrested on marijuana possession charges.
The stop happened about 8 a.m. Friday as Chafin and Jennifer Kerr were driving on U.S. 70 about 13 miles west of Grandfield, Oklahoma. Tillman County Sheriff Bobby Whittington says he stopped the vehicle for speeding and found the pair in possession of marijuana and marijuana candy purchased in Colorado while the pair was on spring break.
Chafin and Kerr both posted bond and were released. Online records did not list their bond amounts or any attorneys for them.
In a statement, Baylor football coach Art Briles said he has suspended Chafin ''until further information is gathered.''
The senior from Burkburnett, Texas, ran for 578 yards and nine touchdowns on 121 carries in 10 games last season. In 30 career games, he averages 5 yards per carry.
