Austin Peay has competitive schedule for Healy debut

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:19 a.m. ET

(STATS) - Austin Peay will play two FBS opponents for the seventh straight year as part of coach Will Healy's first season leading the Governors.

The struggling Ohio Valley Conference program will try to improve on an 0-11 record last year.

The Governors will open their 11-game schedule at Troy on Sept. 3 and close it at Kentucky on Nov. 19. Their other non-conference game will be at Governors Stadium against Mercer on Oct. 22 - their Homecoming Day.

Within the OVC, Austin Peay will play eight games - four each at home and on the road, including an Oct. 15 visit to two-time defending conference champion Jacksonville State, the 2015 FCS runner-up.

"It's a very difficult schedule where we'll be tested each and every week," Healy said. "There are no cupcakes on this schedule. It will be good for us."
