Athlon ranks A&M's receiving corps second-best in country

With the start of the season just days away, Athlon has beeen releasing its rankings of the strongest position groups in college football. Monday's edition ranked receiving corps, and Texas A&M featured prominently, coming in second on the list nationally behind Baylor.

Of course, that should come as no surprise given the talent the Aggies have at the position. Last year's leading receiver -- junior Josh Reynolds, who had 52 catches for 842 yards and 13 touchdowns -- returns along with uber-talented sophomores Speedy Noil and Ricky Seals-Jones. Noil, the smaller and (fittingly) speedier of the two, had 46 receptions for 583 yards and five TDs in 2014, while Seals-Jones, who stands a monstrous 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds and came to Texas A&M as a five-star recruit, had 52 catches for 549 yards and five TDs.

Adding to the talent this year will be Christian Kirk, a top-100 recruit from Scottsdale, Ariz., who was listed along with the aforementioned three wideouts as starters on the Aggies' first official depth chart Monday. It seems likely that, given coach Kevin Sumlin's philosophy and the talent he has to work with, A&M's "base" set will feature four receivers.

And even beyond that group of starters, the Aggies have some viable options. Backups Edward Pope, Frank Iheanacho and Sabian Holmes all have talent and experience, with Pope posting 30 catches (including four touchdowns) last year, Holmes adding 13 catches and two scores and Iheanacho, who was just a freshman, tacking on two catches.
