At least one shot before Florida Classic
At least one person was shot by a police officer Saturday outside the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando, just before kickoff at the annual Florida Classic college football game, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
The incident occurred at around 1 p.m. ET. Witnesses said a Florida Highway Patrol trooper in a police car chased and apparently shot at a vehicle that failed to follow police instructions near the stadium. After the chase, a black car could be seen flipped over on to its roof.
The Orlando Fire Department confirmed that rescue units were sent to the scene because of a shooting. Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials also were on their way to the scene, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
At almost the same time as the shooting, a driver hit a pedestrian and tried to flee the scene. The pedestrian, 55-year-old Connie Bradley, was hospitalized with minor injuries and the driver, Donald Anderson, 49, was arrested.
The Florida Classic is an annual game between Florida A&M
University and Bethune-Cookman University.
