The Arizona State Sun Devils played without running back Kalen Ballage in their opener. The sophomore was sent home after receiving a mononucleosis diagnosis.

The 6'3", 230-pound athlete was expected to play on both offense and defense during the 2015 season. He had 42 carries for 126 yards and 3 touchdowns during his freshman season, adding six catches for 64 yards and a receiving touchdown in the air. He also recorded an impressive kickoff return touchdown vs. Duke in the Sun Bowl.

According to AZCentral.com, ASU coach Todd Graham expects Ballage back in a few weeks -- which would likely make the versatile player available for Pac-12 action. Without Ballage, ASU's rushing game recorded just 2.2 yards per carry.

"Those things happen," said Graham, according to the report. "That's part of the game. He's not out for the year. He'll be back as soon as he's well."
