In the highest-scoring game in series history, Appalachian State ran all over The Citadel to build a 49-14 lead, then held on for a 49-42 victory Saturday in the Southern Conference.

The Mountaineers (4-2, 2-1), who set season highs in rushing (318 yards) and total offense (552), scored on seven of their first eight possessions. Quarterback Jamal Jackson, making his first start in place of the injured DeAndre Presley, completed his first 15 passes and finished 21-for-27 for 234 yards and three touchdowns.

A 28-yard scoring pass to Brian Quick was the 25th touchdown catch of Quick's career, tying the school record.

With Tavaris Cadet rushing for 133 yards and a touchdown, Appalachian State's eighth straight win over The Citadel seemed secure. But the Bulldogs (2-4, 1-4) rallied for 28 unanswered points with the aid of two Appalachian State fumbles and Domonic Jones' 7-yard scoring return with a blocked punt.
