AP Top 25 Poll: Wisconsin Badgers Take a Slight Fall in Latest Rankings

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

After falling five spots in the Coaches Poll, the Wisconsin Badgers did not fall quite as far in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.

No doubt the Wisconsin Badgers were going to drop some in the both polls following a hard-fought 14-7 defeat at the hands of the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday afternoon. Just how far was the bigger question. In the latest Amway Coaches Poll, Wisconsin fell five spots to No. 13. But in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, the Badgers did not fall as far.

Wisconsin now finds themselves just outside of the top 10 and landing at the No. 11 spot this week. On the other hand, Michigan stayed right at the four spot even with the victory and received one first place vote as well.

The Badgers offense could not capitalize on numerous miscues by the Wolverines, including three missed field goals by the maize and blue. On a couple of occasions, Wisconsin’s defense almost came away with some key interceptions that would have decimated drives by Michigan.

Without their leader on defense Vince Biegel, Wisconsin’s defense did everything they possibly could to slow down the high-powered Michigan offense. T.J. Watt played exceptionally well as did Biegel’s replacement Garret Dooley. Jack Cichy led the team with 12 total tackles and Watt added 11, but Dooley came in and played at a high level adding seven tackles of his own including one sack on the afternoon.

Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan, Washington, Houston, Louisville, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and Miami rounded out the top 10 in the AP Top 25 poll.

Wisconsin will get a bye week this week to work on things offensively and go over defensive schemes before facing another top 10 opponent in the Ohio State Buckeyes, their fourth on the year thus far.
