An Oregon walk-on wide receiver can claim he was a better QB than Cal's Jared Goff
One Duck player can claim that he was once a better quarterback than Cal's superstar junior QB Jared Goff. He's a walk-on wide receiver.
Chris Tewhill, a 5'8", 180-pound junior wide receiver was the starting QB at Marin Catholic High School just north of San Francisco. His backup at Marin Catholic? None other than Goff, who is one year younger than Tewhill.
"His sophomore year, which was my junior year, on our Friday walkthrough before a game, he's standing out of bounds on the 35-yard line," Tewhill said this week, according to The Oregonian. "And he said 'Hey, Chris, look, left upright.'"
Goff hit the goal post as promised from 75 yards away.
"I didn't say anything to him, but I was like, holy..." Tewhill said. "Going into my senior year, I kind of knew I was going to have to switch positions."
Goff holds 26 Cal school records and could be the first QB taken off the board in the 2016 NFL Draft. Tewhill says he knew a long time ago that Goff was a special talent.
"I saw incredible things in him the moment I met him," said Tewhill. "I'm proud of him but I know he has a lot of great things in his future.
