Alabama reserve quarterback Star Jackson has missed the past two practices because of academic issues.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Saturday that he holds a player out when he ``doesn't do what he is supposed to do in school.''

He says Jackson will be able to watch film with the team but won't be allowed to return to practice until he gets the issue straightened out.

Jackson completed 13 of 18 passes for 116 yards last season, playing in five games. He is competing for the backup job behind Greg McElroy.
