A look back at Leonard Fournette's historic season

Published Jan. 12, 2016 8:00 p.m. ET

Simply put, LSU sophomore running Leonard Fournette had a sensational 2015 season.

The New Orleans native broke 12 school records during the year -- which included a final statistical output of 1,953 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns.

In addition, Fournette won the NCAA rushing title -- averaging 162.8 yards per game. He also became the first SEC running back to lead the nation in rushing yards per game since 1949.

Without question, Fournette will be a major factor in next year's Heisman Trophy race. In the early going for the award, Fournette, Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey, and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson appear to be the frontrunners.

Most importantly, Fournette will look to lead LSU to an SEC title in 2016. With LSU returning a vast majority of its starting units on both sides of the ball, it could be the early conference favorite.
