The LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds opened the season on Monday night with a win they will not replicate again.

With five seconds left, Loyola (MD) had the ball under its own hoop. Jarred Jones caught the in-bounds pass in the middle of the lane and had a shot at the game-winner, but his attempt was sent away by 6-foot-7 Jerome Frink. The blocked shot went to Martin Hemannsson, who pushed the ball ahead to Joel Hernandez. The LIU Brooklyn guard released his 3-point heave just before the buzzer sounded to give the Blackbirds an unthinkable 71-68 win.
