Luke Martinez scored a Division I career-high 18 points, including 5 of 5 on 3-pointers, to lead Wyoming over Maryland-Eastern Shore 73-43 in the Jim Thorpe Classic on Saturday night.
Francisco Cruz added 10 for Wyoming (5-1), which never trailed. Percy Woods had a career-best 18 to lead Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-6).
Martinez, a junior college transfer who sat out last season with a broken elbow, was 6 of 6 from the floor and hit back-to-back treys to put the Cowboys up 58-26 with 15:44 remaining. Afam Muojeke's 3-point play gave Wyoming its widest lead at 61-28.
Adam Waddell scored seven points in the first 5:06 to stake the Cowboys to a 13-2 lead. After Woods' 3 drew the Hawks within 22-15, Martinez ignited a streak of seven straight Wyoming field goals with a steal and dunk. When the stretch ended, the Cowboys were up 39-17.
