Whitehead scores 21, Seton Hall downs Marquette 79-62
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Isaiah Whitehead scored 21 points and made eight assists and Seton Hall beat Marquette 79-62 on Wednesday night to win its third-straight game.
Up by three at halftime, the Pirates pulled further ahead 50-41 early in the second half on a free throw by Michael Nzei, but Marquette rallied to pull within 52-49 on two free throws by Jajuan Johnson.
Seton Hall replied with three straight 3-pointers amid a 16-4 run and led 68-53 on Gordon's layup with 6:01 left, and the Golden Eagles never seriously threatened again.
Angel Delgado scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Pirates (16-6, 6-4 Big East), who shot 29 of 58 from the field (50 percent) and made 15 of 22 free throws (68 percent). Derrick Gordon and Khadeen Carrington added 11 points each.
Luke Fischer scored 17 points, Johnson added 15 and Henry Ellenson had career highs with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Marquette (15-8, 4-6).
