Western Michigan's Whitfield suspended 1 game
The Mid-American Conference says Western Michigan's Flenard Whitfield has been suspended for one game for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Whitfield will miss the Broncos' game at Central Michigan on Saturday and be eligible again for the first round of the conference tournament.
Whitfield and Ball State's Matt Kamieniecki were issued technical fouls in the second half of Western Michigan's 87-70 win Wednesday after Kamieniecki took Whitfield down, starting a brawl in which Whitfield put his hands around the neck of another Cardinals player.
The MAC said Thursday that Whitfield violated a measure prohibiting the striking or physical abuse of an official, coach or player.
Whitfield had 14 points in the Broncos' victory over Ball State.
