Western Michigan beats Central Michigan 74-62

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) Tucker Haymond had 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting, Connar Tava added 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and Western Michigan stunned Central Michigan 74-62 on Friday night.

Western Michigan (19-12, 10-8 Mid-American) earned the No. 6 seed and will play 11th-seeded Ohio on Monday in the opening round of the conference tournament.

Central Michigan (22-7, 12-6) retained the top seed and will have a three-round bye into the semifinals next Friday.

The Broncos held CMU to 28-percent shooting in the first half and led by 18 points just before the intermission. The Chippewas shot 50 percent in the second half and twice got within seven points.

Austin Richie added 15 points and Drake LaMont scored 11 for WMU.

Chris Fowler scored 21 points, Rayshawn Simmons had 19 and John Simons 10 for Central Michigan, which shot just 4 of 21 from 3-point range.
