Western Carolina tops Wofford 88-83 in 2OT in SoCon

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) Mike Brown scored a career-high 34 points and No. 5 seed Western Carolina beat No. 4 seed Wofford 88-83 in the second overtime on Saturday in a Southern Conference tournament quarterfinal matchup.

The Catamounts (16-16) advanced to Sunday's semifinal against top-seeded Chattanooga (27-5), which beat Samford earlier Saturday.

Brown's two free throws gave Western Carolina an 84-78 lead with 58 seconds left in the second overtime, but Jaylen Allen hit a 3 and Wofford trailed 84-83.

WCU's Devin Peterson made a pair of free throws before fouling Wofford's Eric Garcia, who missed both from the line. Rhett Harrelson iced it with two free throws with four seconds left.

Torrion Brummitt scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Catamounts. Justin Browning added 11 points.

Fletcher Magee made six 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead Wofford (15-17), who split the season series with the Catamounts.
