Kevin Kaspar scored six of his 11 points in overtime as Western Kentucky outlasted Louisiana-Monroe 76-71 Thursday night in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams.
Western Kentucky (5-9), coming off a 70-60 loss to No. 4 Louisville, snapped a three-game skid.
George Fant led the Hilltoppers with 17 points, including three in overtime, and nine rebounds.
The Warhawks (1-13) led by 10 points in the first half, then the momentum shifted to Western Kentucky, which led by as many as 15 in the second.
The Hilltoppers saw a six-point cushion evaporate with 46 seconds left in regulation. Steven McClellan converted a three-point play with 11 seconds to go, then Hugh Mingo made a 3-pointer with 4 seconds on the clock to tie it at 64
Western Kentucky never trailed in overtime as Kaspar contributed a jumper and 4 of 5 free throws.
Mingo scored a season-high 23 points.
