Vermont holds off Yale 82-78

Evan Fjeld had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Vermont made 13 of 16 free throws in the final 4:47 to beat Yale 82-78 on Saturday.

The Catamounts are 6-1 for the first time since the 1956-57 season.

Joey Accaoui added 17 points, and Matt Glass and Brendan Bald had 14 each for the Catamounts, who shot 55.6 percent (30 of 54) from the field for the game and made 17 of 23 free throws (73.9 percent) in the second half. With Vermont leading 80-78, Accaoui hit two free throws with 3.2 seconds remaining to seal the win.

The game was tied 11 times and neither team led by more than seven points, but Vermont held the lead for the final 10 minutes of the game. Vermont got 19 points off 10 Yale turnovers.

Austin Morgan scored 25 points, Greg Mangano added 14 and Porter Braswell had 12 for Yale (3-4), which had a two-game winning streak snapped.
