Vermont eases past UMBC 74-51

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Ethan O'Day scored a career-high tying 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Vermont to a 74-51 win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday, its fifth-straight win.

Dre Wills had 10 points and Ryan Pierson pitched in nine for the Catamounts (16-10, 11-2 American East), who assisted on 17 of their 28 made baskets. Vermont outrebounded UMBC 35-28.

Cody Joyce had 13 points and Malcolm Brent added 12 and five rebounds for the Retrievers (3-22, 1-11), who lost their sixth straight game.

The Retrievers had the lead in the first half until a layup by Trae Bell-Haynes tipped Vermont up one. The Catamounts built on a six-point halftime lead with a 19-5 run to push the advantage to 20 with 10:38 to go.

Vermont scored 17 of the last 26 points, including a 10-0 run.
