Vermont 84, Iona 79

Joey Accaoui scored 23 points and Evan Fjeld had a double-double as Vermont held on for 84-79 win over Iona on Wednesday night.

The Catamounts (8-3) led by as many as 21, 67-46, on Fjeld's layup with 10:42 left. But Iona (7-5) responded with a 20-3 run to bring it to 70-66 on Scott Machado's free throws with 5:10 remaining. Machado then pulled the Gaels within 1, 80-79, on a layup with 16 seconds left.

However, Vermont would make all four of its free throws - two each from Simeon Marsalis and Accaoui - to seal it.

Fjeld finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Brendan Bald added 17 points for Vermont.

The Catamounts outrebounded Iona 48-38, including 13 by Brian Voelkel.

Mike Glover had a double-double for the Gaels with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Machado finished with 17 points, Rashon Dwight added 12 and Sean Armand and Kyle Smyth had 11 each.
