Valenti's last-second jumper lifts Canisius over Duquesne

PITTSBURGH (AP) Phil Valenti scored six of his 14 points in the final 100 seconds, Jermaine Crumpton hit 4 of 4 from 3-point range and scored 18 and Canisius slipped past Duquesne 78-77 on Friday night.

Kassius Robertson hit three 3s and finished with 13 points for Canisius (1-2).

The game featured 10 ties and 17 lead changes, including four in the final 29 seconds.

Emile Blackman made 1 of 2 free throws and the Dukes led 75-74. Valenti made a put-back layup 15 seconds later, but Isiaha Mike answered with a baseline jumper that made it 77-76 with 6 seconds left. Valenti, trailing after inbounding the ball, hit a jumper from just inside the top of the key with 1.5 seconds remaining.

Blackman and Tarin Smith led Duquesne with 18 points apiece. Mike scored 17.

Two free throws by Nakye Sanders put Duquesne (2-2) up 69-62 with 5:09 to play. Crumpton hit a 3-pointer nearly a minute later, sparking a 10-1 run - capped by Crumpton's putback off a missed 3 - that made it 72-70 with 2 minutes left.
