USC Upstate advances in A-Sun; beats Kennesaw State 90-54

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) Ty Greene, the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, scored 21 points on Tuesday to help No. 3 seed South Carolina Upstate beat sixth-seeded Kennesaw State 90-57 in the quarterfinals of the A-Sun tournament.

Greene led the conference with 20.1 points per game during the regular season.

ShunQuez Stephens added 14 points as Upstate (22-10) set a single-season school record for wins during the Division I era.

Kennesaw State made just three of its first 26 shots, including a basket on its first possession for a brief 3-0 lead, and trailed 27-10 with just over six minutes left. Upstate extended its lead to 42-17 at the break. Greene and Stephens had 10 points apiece as the Spartans made 50 percent of its shots compared with 16.7 percent for the Owls.

Nigel Pruitt led Kennesaw State (10-22) with 26 points.

Upstate will play No. 2 seed Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday in the semifinals.
