UNC Greensboro tops Samford 86-78 behind Smith's 20

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) Marvin Smith scored 20 points with five 3-pointers and UNC Greensboro rallied on a late run to beat Samford 86-78 on Sunday.

Kayel Locke scored 17 points, R.J. White added 15 with nine rebounds, and the Spartans shot 10 of 24 from long distance.

Trailing 37-35 at halftime, the Spartans rallied to a 44-40 lead on Diante Baldwin's layup, but Samford pulled ahead 49-44 after Jamal Shabazz's back-to-back 3-pointers capped an 8-0 run.

Asad Lamot hit consecutive 3s to pull the Spartans within 52-50, then Locke hit a 3 to spark a 10-2 run and UNC Greensboro pulled ahead 72-65 with 3:58 to go. The Bulldogs got no closer than five the rest of the way.

Baldwin scored 11 points with a career-high seven assists, and Francis Alonso added 10 points for the Spartans (7-13, 3-4 Southern).

Wyatt Walker scored 17 points for Samford (11-10, 2-6). Shabazz and Christen Cunningham added 15 apiece and Matt Rose had 14.
