UMKC stuns first-place Utah Valley 74-56
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Martez Harrison scored 24 points and UMKC stunned Utah Valley 74-56 on Saturday night, dropping the Wolverines out of sole possession of first place in the Western Athletic Conference.
Nelson Kirksey added 16 points for the Kangaroos (8-18, 5-8), who snapped a six-game losing streak. UMKC shot 50 percent from the field and made 9 of 20 3-point tries (45 percent).
Utah Valley (16-10, 10-3) had a two-game win streak broken and is now tied atop the WAC with New Mexico State, the Wolverines' next opponent. Holton Hunsaker scored 17 points, Hayes Garrity 16 and Zach Nelson 15 for Utah Valley. Ben Aird grabbed 11 rebounds.
UMKC led by 11 at halftime and a 14-0 run early in the second half, sparked by nine points from Kirksey, gave the Kangaroos a 51-28 advantage. The Wolverines never seriously threatened after that.
