UMBC outlasts Maine, 73-66

BALTIMORE (AP) Cody Joyce led five scorers in double figures with 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting as UMBC won a close game on Saturday over Maine, 73-66.

Will Darley finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and six assists and Malcolm Brent added 15 points for UMBC (4-23, 2-12 America East Conference), which snapped a seven game losing streak. The Retrievers have just two conference wins this season, both against Maine.

An Aaron Calixte layup for Maine cut the UMBC lead to 63-61 with 1:42 left, but Jourdan Grant answered with a layup and the Retrievers finished 8-8 at the line to put the game away.

UMBC hit 19 of its 21 free throws overall and shot 50 percent from the field. All four of its wins have come when shooting above than 50 percent.

Kevin Little scored 22 for Maine (3-24, 2-12). The Black Bears have lost six of seven.
