Justin Fry made two free throws with 4 seconds left and Maryland-Baltimore County beat Niagara 68-67 Thursday night, snapping a 13-game losing streak while its coach served a one-game suspension.

Randy Monroe sat out after getting ejected against Morgan State Dec. 18. Assistant Aki Thomas took over, ending a skid that included an America East tournament defeat last season.

Niagara (3-11) appeared on its way to victory when Scooter Gillette completed a three-point play with 10:21 left in the first half. That gave the Purple Eagles their biggest lead at 27-11.

But the Retrievers rallied behind Chris De La Rosa's 21 points.

UMBC (1-12) caught Niagara with 11:55 left, when Chase Plummer's layup tied it at 46. Five more ties followed.

Marvin Jordan's 3-point try at the buzzer missed.

Skylar Jones led Niagara, which lost its fourth straight, with 15 points.
