UMass Lowell over Sacred Heart 57-54

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) Jahad Thomas scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead UMass Lowell to a 57-54 win over Sacred Heart on Thursday night.

Thomas did it with 7-of-11 shooting from the field for the River Hawks (1-2). Kerry Weldon added 10 points and led with 11 rebounds. Tyler Livingston chipped in from the bench with eight points.

UMass took an early 12-8 advantage on a 3-pointer by Livingston and held the lead through the rest of the game. They led 31-27 at the break.

Sacred Heart came within two points with under a minute to play on a pair of Evan Kelley free throws but a Cane Broome turnover with 7 seconds to go ended the Pioneers' hopes.

The River Hawks finished hitting 38 percent from the field and just 26 percent from 3-point territory.

Kelley scored 10 points with five rebounds for the Pioneers (1-1).
