UIC ends losing streak, beats Cleveland State 72-70 in OT
CHICAGO (AP) Najeal Young's baseline jumper with 1.9 seconds left in overtime lifted Illinois-Chicago a 72-70 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday as the Flames broke a 10-game losing streak with its first Division-I victory this season.
UIC's Jake Wiegand made it 70-all with a one-hander off the glass with 1:19 left then missed another with 28 seconds remaining but tied up the Cleveland State rebounder for a jump ball with possession staying with the Flames. The Flames worked the clock down until Lance Whitaker found Young for the game-winner.
Dikembe Dixson scored 24 points and Young a career-high 17 along with 15 rebounds for the Flames (3-18, 1-9 Horizon). Dixson's jumper with 31 seconds left sent the game into overtime tied at 64-all.
Cleveland State (7-16, 2-8) got 24 points from Kenny Carpenter.
The Flames were in the double-bonus with 12 minutes to go but missed 22 of 48 free throws.
