UCLA freshman Carlino to transfer
Freshman guard Matt Carlino announced Friday he will transfer from UCLA without ever playing in a regular-season game.
Carlino plans to leave school immediately and hasn't decided where he will transfer.
The 6-foot-1 guard from Scottsdale, Ariz., took a hard fall in practice after the Bruins' first exhibition game and had a concussion, which sidelined him for the last exhibition game and the first three games of the season.
Carlino was medically cleared to play in the Bruins' last four games, but was not used.
''Matt is a good kid and I have enjoyed having him in our program,'' coach Ben Howland Howland said in a release. ''I wish him nothing but the best as he searches for a program where he will have a chance to play more minutes than we envision he will have here.''
Carlino said in the university's release that he believes a new school would be ''much healthier'' for him personally and athletically.
Carlino played high school basketball at Bloomington South in Indiana.
