UC Irvine shot 62 percent from the field to notch its first victory of the season, beating San Diego 99-79 Saturday night.
The Anteaters (1-6) shot 74 percent in the first half, hitting 23 of 31 baskets to build a 54-34 lead. They increased that advantage to as many as 38 points in the second half when Michael Wilder nailed a 3-pointer with 8:13 remaining to give San Diego an 85-47 lead.
Wilder was perfect from the field on all seven of his shot attempts, including four 3-pointers, to finish with 19 points. Chris McNealy added 16 points, Will Davis 15, Adam Folker 11 and Daman Starring 10 for Irvine.
Christopher Anderson led San Diego (4-3) with 14 points. Ken Rancifer and Darian Norris added 13 each, and John Sinis had 10.
