Joe Harden had his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead UC Davis to a 70-49 victory over UC Santa Cruz on Wednesday night.
Harden made 7 of 10 shots to help the Aggies (1-3) shoot 55.1 percent (27 of 49). The Division III Banana Slugs (0-2) shot 32.7 percent (18 of 55).
Mark Payne scored 13 points for the Aggies, and Ryan Howley added 10. Ryan Sypkens had a game-high five assists.
Ryan Matsuoka led UC Santa Cruz with 12 points but missed 11 of his 15 shots. Tyler Hunt scored 11, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range.
UC Davis scored the first eight points. After Payne's jumper made it 19-9 with 9:41 to go in the first half, the lead never receded to single digits. Their largest lead was 25 when Howley's 3-pointer made it 48-23 with 11:38 remaining.
