Towson 89, Coppin St. 74
RaShawn Polk scored a career-high 29 points to lead Towson past Coppin State 89-74 on Tuesday night.
Polk, who was 10 of 16 from the field, scored 21 points in the first half as the Tigers (1-1) took a 45-28 halftime lead.
Towson led by as many as 19 with 7:33 left in the first half and shot 48.3 percent from the field (14 of 29) before the break.
After the Tigers took a 72-60 lead, the Eagles (0-2) used a six-point run to cut it to 72-66 with 6:46 to go, but couldn't get any closer.
Isaiah Philmore added a career-high 21 points and eight rebounds for Towson, and Troy Franklin chipped in 16 points.
The Tigers outrebounded Coppin State 46-31 behind career highs of 14 rebounds from Braxton Dupree and 11 from Brian Morris.
Michael Harper led the Eagles with 18 points with six rebounds, and Vince Goldsberry added 14 points.
