BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Matt Townsend had a hand in Yale's last three baskets, including knocking down the game-winner from the top the key with 5 seconds left as the Bulldogs edged Vermont 57-56 on Thursday night.

Townsend hit a jumper with 2:44 left to put Yale (9-3) up 52-50. Kurt Steidl responded with a three-point play for the Catamounts (5-5) before Townsend fed Javier Duren for a 3-pointer that made it 55-53 at 1:56.

Steidl hit a 3-pointer as Vermont regained the lead with 1:34 to go. Yale missed a shot but Duren blocked Vermont's next attempt out of bounds with the shot clock at 1 second. The Catamounts turned the ball over on a shot-clock violation with 23 seconds left. That set up Townsend, who took a pass from Jack Montague.

Montague led Yale with 12 points and Justin Sears, who stole the final pass, had 11. Steidl led Vermont with 18.
