Marquise Mems and Juan Gray scored 11 points apiece as NAIA school Tougaloo College defeated Southern University 71-58 on Friday night.

Tied at 29 with 3:08 to go before the break, the Bulldogs (6-1) closed out the first half with an 11-3 run and opened the second on a 14-3 spurt to lead 54-35 with 15:18 remaining.

Tougaloo led 60-40 when the Jaguars (1-3) used a 12-0 run to close the gap. But the Bulldogs quickly pushed the lead back into double figures, sparked by Donteeno Todd's 3-pointer.

Tougaloo made 11 of 31 3-pointers in the game.

Neither team shot well in the second half. The Bulldogs made 9 of 26 shots (34.6 percent) and the Jaguars 8 of 24 (33.3 percent).

Jejuan Jacks added 10 points for Tougaloo and James Carter had 12 rebounds.

Southern was led by Julius Ingram with 14 points and nine rebounds and Blake Sanford with 14 points.
