Cameron Johnson scored 19 points and Travis Jones added 17 as Texas State defeated Northwestern State 84-71 in the Southland Conference opener for both teams.
Jones made all five of his 3-point attempts for the Bobcats (6-9), giving him a streak of nine straight.
William Mosley had seven points, 14 rebounds and seven blocks for the Demons (8-8). Northwestern State's top two scorers were both off the bench: Devon Baker had 17 points and Will Pratt 12.
Texas State, who shot 29 of 54 (53.7 percent) from the floor, took control after the Demons cut the lead to eight points early in the second half. The Bobcats responded with back-to-back 3-pointers by Jones and layup by J.B. Conley to stretch the cushion to 55-39 with 13:54 remaining.
Eddie Rios scored 12 points and Conley and Uriel Segura 10 each for Texas State.
