Reuben Clayton scored 18 points and Ron Spencer grabbed 10 rebounds, including eight offensive, as Tennessee-Martin easily handled MacMurray 70-49 in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.
The Skyhawks forced 16 steals and held the Highlanders to 35.3 percent shooting from the field including 1 of 10 from behind the three-point line.
Tennessee-Martin earned the victory despite shooting 37.7 percent from the field and 2 of 19 from three-point range.
The Skyhawks went on a 15-0 run early in the first half to take a 22-6 lead with 7:50 left in the first half before extending their lead to 39-21 at halftime.
Freshman guard Terence Smith added 12 points and five steals off the bench for the Skyhawks, while Dylan Burton led the Highlanders with 11 points.
Mike Liabo added 15 points for the Skyhawks in the win.
