Tava leads Western Michigan to 81-78 OT win over Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) Connar Tava had 25 points and 11 rebounds as Western Michigan came back to knock off Toledo 81-78 in overtime on Saturday night.

Jordan Lauf gave Toledo a 78-77 lead after splitting a pair of free throws with 1:38 left in extra time. Mario Matasovic slammed home a dunk and then had a layup after an Austin Richie steal to seal it for Western Michigan.

David Brown had 20 points and Tucker Haymond added 11 for Western Michigan (12-5, 3-1 Mid-American).

The Broncos led 67-61 with 1:27 left in regulation. Julius Brown scored five points and Jonathan Williams scored two to tie at 68. Tava made two free throws to regain the lead, but Brown responded to tie at 70 and force overtime.

Brown drained five 3-pointers and finished with 31 points for Toledo (10-7, 2-2).

It was a rematch of last season's MAC championship, which the Broncos won 98-77.
