Leonard Hayes scored 20 points to lead Stony Brook to a 69-47 upset victory over Vermont on Sunday in the semifinals of the America East Conference tournament.

The Seawolves (15-16), who won the regular-season conference title last season, avenged their 70-63 semifinal loss to Boston University in last year's semifinals by defeating the team that ultimately won the 2010 conference tournament.

Hayes nailed 6 of 7 from 3-point range as Stony Brook led from start to finish. Leading by 10, 54-44, with less than 5 minutes remaining, the Seawolves finished the game on a 15-3 run.

The top-seeded Catamounts (23-8) failed to make a field goal in the final 5:26 after closing their deficit to 40-34 with 8:40 remaining.

Brian Voelkel scored 14 and was the only player in double figures for Vermont, whose 47-point output was its lowest since a 66-46 loss to Michigan State in 2006.
