Stephen F. Austin turns away Sam Houston St. 67-60
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Jacob Parker scored 20 points as Stephen F. Austin turned away its closest pursuer in the Southland Conference, Sam Houston State, 67-60 on Saturday.
The Lumberjacks (24-2, 13-0) recorded their 21st consecutive victory in defeating the Bearkats (18-7, 10-3) for the second time this season. SFA has won 10 straight road games and 12 on the road overall, both national bests this season.
Thomas Walkup added 16 points and Nikola Gajic 12 for SFA.
Up nine with 13:39 left, the Lumberjacks went on a 7-0 run over the next 2 minutes.
The Bearkats rallied and Kaheem Ransom's 3-pointer with 38 seconds left had them within 63-57. But from there, four free throws from Walkup negated Jabari Peter's 3-pointer.
Ransom led the Bearkats with 12 points with Michael Holyfield scoring 11 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
The Bearkats had a five-game win streak snapped and lost their first home game (9-1).
