Southern U. 66, MacMurray 57
Quinton Doggett scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Southern University defeated MacMurray College 66-57 Friday night at the Skip Prosser Tournament at Tulane University.
Doggett got 14 of his points and Russell Hill got 12 of his 18 in the second half, when the Jaguars (3-5) led their Division III opponent by as many as 16 points.
Doggett made 8 of 13 shots and Hill 7 of 14, while the rest of the Jaguars made just 12 of 36.
The Highlanders (4-3) led for only 9 seconds, at 3-2, but they hung close and trailed 35-30 with 17:34 left in the second half. A jumper by Hill and a dunk and a jumper by Doggett stretched Southern's lead to 41-30 just 1:17 later.
The tournament is named for the former coach of Wake Forest, Xavier and Loyola (Md.), who died of a heart attack in 2007.
