Southern drubs Mississippi Valley State, 97-64

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) Shawn Prudhomme scored 20 points and Southern put up its highest point total of the season in a 97-64 win over Mississippi Valley State on Monday night.

The Jaguars (18-8, 10-3 SWAC), hit 55.1 percent of their shots and went 10 of 21 from 3-point range while holding the Delta Devils to just 34.9 percent from the field.

Adrian Rodgers finished with 17 points and seven rebounds and Trelun Banks added 11 points for Southern. The Jaguars have won 10 of 11 and sit 1.5 games behind Texas Southern (12-12, 11-1) in the SWAC standings.

Marcus Romain had 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Mississippi Valley State (5-22, 5-8).

Southern opened on a 15-6 run and led 47-30 at halftime. Banks hit a 3-pointer with 11:19 to go which extended Southern's lead to 20, and a LaQuentin Collins layup pushed the margin past 30 in the final minutes.
