South Florida 66, Georgia Southern 46
Ron Anderson Jr. scored 17 points, leading South Florida to a 66-46 victory over Georgia Southern on Wednesday night.
Despite the lopsided margin, no other player scored in double figures for South Florida (4-2). Victor Rudd Jr. and Blake Nash each had nine points for the Bulls. LaVonte Dority and Shaun Noriega finished with eight apiece.
Willie Powers III collected 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists to pace Georgia Southern (1-3). Eric Ferguson added 10 points and six rebounds for the Eagles, who have lost 19 consecutive road games.
Anderson made his first five shots to help South Florida build a 23-10 lead on 71-percent shooting (10 of 14).
Georgia Southern hit only three of its first 17 shots (18 percent). The Eagles were down 17 before scoring eight unanswered points to make it 31-22 at the break.
''At halftime, we really challenged the guys,'' Bulls coach Stan Heath said. ''We've got to set the tone these next four minutes, and we've got to make sure that we let them know that, `Hey, this is our house and we're the better team.'''
South Florida opened the second half with a 9-0 run and steadily pulled away. The Bulls' lead peaked at 60-37 with 6 minutes to go.
Anderson finished 7 of 8 from the field, but he made only three of 11 free throws to fall a point shy of matching his career high.
''Guess where he's going to be living over the next few weeks,'' Heath said, grinning. ''We've got a beautiful building with a bunch of baskets, and he's going to live on that free-throw line. We're going to get that fixed.''
